Alex Ybarra, District 13 State Representative, has been appointed to three new house committees for the 2021 legislative session.
Ybarra has been appointed as the lead Republican on the House Education Committee, will serve on the House Civil Rights and Judiciary Committee and as a member of the House Health Care and Wellness Committee for the upcoming legislative session.
The House Education Committee considers issues relating to K-12 education. Ybarra was on this committee last legislative session.
“It’s an honor to have been appointed as the ranking member to this critical committee,” Ybarra said. “Coronavirus has robbed our students of months of the quality education they deserve. In these challenging times, I look forward to working with my colleagues, educators, and others to take on the challenges we’re facing because of the outbreak. We can, and must, educate Washington state students to the best of our ability.”
Ybarra will also serve on the House Civil Rights and Judiciary Committee again, which considers a wide variety of legal issues.
Lastly, Ybarra will serve as a member of the House Health Care and Wellness Committee, which covers a wide variety of issues related to the provision of physical and behavioral health care services.
“The coronavirus outbreak has put the spotlight on this committee. The work we do in the next few months takes on even greater meaning as we consider the state’s public health programs, long-term care facilities, pharmacies and other health-related facilities,” Ybarra said.
The 2021 legislative session is scheduled to begin on Jan. 11 and convene for 105 days. Because of the pandemic, only 15 members from each caucus will be allowed in their office in Olympia at a single time. The rest of the time they will be working remotely.
