Decima Arlene Thornton

Quincy, WA

Decima Arlene (Bergloff) Thornton was born on December 8, 1928, in Bismarck, ND. Her parents were Lawrence and Ella Bergloff. Decima spent her childhood growing up in Billings, MT, where she lived just a few blocks away from her future husband, Everett Thornton, whom she married in 1953. Dee was very active in her church growing up. After graduation, she went on to become an RN and worked as the head nurse in pediatrics, at the Deaconess Hospital in Billings. MT. Later, in Quincy, WA, she used her skills as a nurse working at the nursing home and taught health occupations at the Quincy High School for several years. She had a true love of medicine, and through the years helped neighbors by visiting with them about medical concerns.

Dee was known for her hospitality, loved to have family and friends over, and could put nice meals together at a moments notice. She was very involved with the Quincy Presbyterian Church, enjoyed being in a ladies book club and was a campfire leader for many years. Dee was a strong, intelligent, and determined woman, and an invaluable part of the family farm, working alongside of Everett. She kept the books for the family farm and led the weeding crew for the irrigated crops. Blessed with four children, she passed her strength of character, love of hard work, and productivity onto each of them.

While Dee enjoyed entertaining others at her home, she also loved to eat out and to travel, going to China, Germany, Poland, and Hawaii, to name a few. Dee and Everett farmed in the beautiful Columbia Basin for many years, later moving to the Wenatchee area, and then to Deer Park. WA, to be close to family. Dee broke her hip, in 2017, and did her healing and recovery in Spokane, WA. She showed her continued spirit and determination through this trying time.

Dee passed peacefully on March 30, 2021. She will be laid to rest with Everett in Edgar, MT, later this year. She is survived by her loving children: Linda (John) Thornton Bradshaw, John (Roberta) Thornton, Mark (Rhonda) Thornton, and Jane Thornton Reilly; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly; and many nieces; and nephews.
