Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the high school spring sports season has been postponed. The Post-Register would like to recognize the following senior athletes on the QHS track and field team who will not get to play their final season. Comments submitted by Girls Head Coach Whitney Gregg.

Nathan Ortiz

Team Experience: 4 years

Nate is a very hard worker. He spent a lot of time in the weight room this year doing everything he can to be the best athlete possible. Nate is a great leader because he does what is right and what needs to be done for the team.

Oswaldo Perez

Team Experience: 4 years

Oswaldo leads by example and his joy is contagious. He has been a leader on our distance squad throughout his high school running career. Always respectful and an amazing teammate, he is serious about improving and works hard. He displays excellent character and sportsmanship on and off the track.

Carmelo Martinez

Team Experience: 4 years

Carmelo is a hard worker. He lives in the weight room and is serious about making gains. Everyday he’d ask me to guess how much he squatted or cleaned. He is pound for pound one of the strongest athletes we have. He is also a great captain.

Christian Herrera

Team Experience: 1 year

Christian is a senior coming out for track and has SO much potential.  His physical strength and his willingness to focus on technique make him an ideal thrower.  He is hardworking and dedicated and is a huge asset to the team.

Daisy Buenrostro

Team Experience: 4 years

Daisy shows perseverance and dedication, and her positive, respectful attitude makes her a joy to coach.  She is an amazing javelin thrower and has made growth in this event consistently over her high school career.

Irma Guzman

Team Experience: 2 years

Irma is a fun person to be around. She makes practice more entertaining with her personality.  I can count on her to work hard and push herself to be better.  She is willing to try new events to support her team and has a great attitude. 

Bryn Heikes

Team Experience: 4 years

Bryn demonstrates competitive greatness.  She has been competitive with top distance racers at the state level year after year.  She is ambitious, takes initiative, and displays integrity in all she does.  She has harnessed her talent and combined that with hard work to realize her potential in multiple, distance events. 

Nicol Ortiz

Team Experience: 2 years

Nicol is an athlete who works hard while she has fun!  She is always smiling and laughing, however when it’s time to get to work, she does. Nicole pushes herself and will rise to expectations, no matter the obstacle.
